Jeff Koons, artist of the month
Dear Parents,
As all of you know our artist last month was Jeff Koons. We hope some of you got a chance to take your children to Museo Jumex to see his exhibition.
During September, the children learned that Jeff Koons is a North American painter and sculptor. Most of his works are familiar with conceptual, minimalist and pop “art”
Children saw many of the most famous art made by Koons such as:
- The huge sculpture called “Play-Doh”, which represents with great realism a giant block of plastic colors, identical to those made by children in preschool and shown here.
- His famous Balloon Dog, a three-meter sculpture of polished steel painted, which is inspired by one of those puppies made with balloons for children’s birthday parties.
- The Puppy a giant sculpture of a 12-meter-high dog built with flowers and an internal irrigation system that protects the entrance of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
Guided by Miss Wendy, we started by watching at his different artwork in a video and pictures. Then we help them inflate balloons and made balloons dogs. They paste news paper on it to make paper mache and later they paint them.
We continued by making Play Doh sculptures which children enjoy their unique creations.
The children loved learning about this new artist and really loved the activities we did.

Queridos padres,
Como todos ustedes saben, nuestro artista el mes pasado fue Jeff Koons. Esperamos que algunos de ustedes hayan tenido la oportunidad de llevar a sus hijos al Museo Jumex para ver su exposición.
Durante septiembre, los niños aprendieron que Jeff Koons es un pintor y escultor norteamericano. La mayoría de sus obras están familiarizadas con el “arte” conceptual, minimalista y pop.
Los niños vieron muchas de las obras de arte más famosas hechas por Koons, entre ellas:
- La enorme escultura llamada “Play-Doh”, que representa con gran realismo un bloque gigante de plastifica de colores brillantes, idénticos a los realizados por niños en edad preescolar y mostrados aquí.
- Su famoso Balloon Dog, una escultura de tres metros de acero pulido y pintado, inspirada en uno de esos cachorros hechos con globos para fiestas de cumpleaños infantiles.
- “The Puppy”, una escultura gigante de un perro de 12 metros de altura construido con flores y un sistema de riego interno que protege la entrada del Museo Guggenheim de Bilbao.
Guiados por Miss Wendy, comenzamos viendo sus diferentes obras de arte en un video y fotos. Luego les ayudamos a inflar globos e hicimos con ellos perritos, le pegaron papel periódico para lograr la técnica de papel maché y luego los pintaron.
Continuamos haciendo esculturas de Play Doh que los niños disfrutaron haciendo creaciones únicas.
A los niños les encantó aprender sobre este nuevo artista y realmente amaron las actividades que realizamos.
